Christmas Traditions

10 days until Christmas! The days are sure to go fast.  Fortunately, the majority of our rushing around is done and we get to focus on family time over the next several days and just enjoy the season.

To celebrate the season and the countdown to Christmas, I thought it would be fun to do a top 10 countdown of our family’s favorite Christmas traditions.

Tree lighting & kickoff to the holidays

This is a new tradition in our family, but is quickly becoming a favorite.  Around Thanksgiving each year, the city hosts a tree lighting and Christmas event (usually a Santa, orchestra, etc.) to kickoff the holidays.

The evening usually involves us doing dinner someplace fun for the kids (or some place that doesn’t mind telling kids)and then squeezing ourselves in next to hundreds of others to watch the celebration.  After singing Christmas songs, the crowd counts down before they flip the switch and the tree and wreathes are all lit.  The building is decorated beautifully and it’s a magical experience to see everything lit up and everyone together ready to celebrate the holidays.  Ice cream afterwards doesn’t hurt either.
